We got the chance to speak with Jason Roberts, Lead Designer, Sony Online Entertainment about the uplcoming Kingdom Of Sky expansion for Everquest II. Enjoy this Q&A brought to you for our site launch! Can you tell us the story behind the Kingdom Of Sky expansion, give us a bit of background? Hidden in the skies of Norrath exists the Overrealm, a fantastic region of enormous floating islands. It is home to the native creatures of flight; Aviaks, fairies, and other more fearsome denizens. A new dragon faction has emerged, calling themselves the Awakened, following the orders of the Sleeper. Each region of these Dragon Isles are controlled by a dragon lord. Harla Dar, High Priestess of the Awakened, Lord Vyemm, first and eldest of the dragons of the Awakened, Gorenaire and Talendor, twin rulers of the grand palace of the Awakened. Can you tell us about some of the dungeons that will be included in the Kingdom Of Sky expansion? There are seven primary dungeons and several instanced dungeons within Kingdom of Sky. The first that most players will encounter is the Sanctum of the Scaleborn, a haven for the dragon men (Droags) who are loyal to the dragon priestess Harla Dar. The Temple of Scale is home to Harla Dar herself and those dragons and dragon kin most loyal to her and the religion of the Awakened. The Palace of the Awakened and Ascent of the Awakened are the domain of Gorenaire and Talendor, the red and white dragons who used to call the Ring of Scale their home within Kunark. They have since allied themselves with the Awakened dragons and have gained the loyalty and servitude of the Aviaks who live within their realm. The Halls of Fate, Laboratory of Lord Vyemm, and the fabled dragon necropolis, Deathtoll are all found within the realm of Lord Vyemm. Each of these places offers the greatest challenges within the Kingdom of Sky expansion; these are unique high level raid zones meant to push even the most dedicated guilds to their limits. Can you give more detail on the new Achievement system featured in Kingdom Of Sky? The Achievement system is designed to allow characters to customize their abilities to their play styles. These abilities range from increases in specific statistics to changing the way some classes may even play the game. The Achievement points are gained through normal gameplay, finishing quests, defeating notable foes, completing collections, and finding rare treasure. This attempts to avoid the need for grinding points and rewards people for playing through the content of the game . The Achievement system allows for a certain number of abilities to be gained, affording players the option of going as deep and specialized or diverse as they wish. The system also allows re-allocation of abilities, the points are never lost once earned but playstyles may change with time and levels, the Achievement system allows for this kind of change. Will there be any new city areas for players to explore in the expansion? Within Kingdom of Sky there are small villages and camps that the characters may uncover and find allies within. The Overrealm is typically a very hostile place to outsiders and having been recently discovered no cities would have been able to take root as of yet. |
