How about the actual look of the game, are there any significant changes planned, are the outfits spruced up at all? The look of the game has been changing since launch to incorporate a richer color palette and more fantasy-themed content. This extends through the creatures, zones, and armor with every new addition and expansion. We also incorporated a fairly large variety of new armor appearances, weapons, and customized helms and profession hats for individual classes. Are there any major changes or additions in store for tradeskills? The tradeskills are undergoing a large change with the removal of the interim combines and raw material refines. While some people like to create items using the existing system it became a large inventory space hog and time sink in order to create most complicated recipes. With some recipes requiring 13 steps or more in order to make a single item it became clear that the system may have grown too complicated and unwieldy to be truly fun for as many people as we would like it to be. Can you tell us anything about the PvP servers that will be added? Just a bit about how they will work differently than the other servers. The PvP servers use a ruleset which is unique to EverQuest II. There are two primary factions, Freeport and Qeynos (with the possibility of an Exile faction in the future). The citizens of the two cities are allowed to attack each other at will within the world. Upon defeating your enemy you are awarded status, experience, any coin the enemy was carrying, and the possibility of an item they had in their inventory which was not equipped. Now that Everquest II is over a year old, what can you tell us about what you have learned from making the sequel to probably the most well known MMORPG of all time? There are several things we've learned that I'll try to sum up: Do not re-invent the wheel if you don't have to. There are ways of taking features and improving them rather than attempting to completely remake the feature just to be different. Do not try to solve problems with restrictive game mechanics and some problems do not always need to be solved. EverQuest II is first and foremost a game, the focus should be on the fun and interesting things you can do in a fantasy world. Thanks for taking the time to talk to us, is there anything else you would like to say to our readers? For those of you who haven’t already tried EverQuest II, you’ll be thrilled to know that you can download a trial version of the game by visiting the following link -- http://www.trialoftheisle.com/.Well there you have it, we would like to thank Jason for taking the time to speak with us once again, and remind our readers to check back often for more great features! |
