Why the developers and publishers continue to put money into MMO game these days, we are just not sure. We keep telling people that the breaking point has been reached for this generation, and that there is just not enough MMO players to fill all the MMO games planned, but of course, no one is listening to us. Why do you think so many MMO games fail? Despite this, Codemasters, one of our favorite dev/pubs, has announced that they will be working on 2 new console MMO games. Maybe the console platform will bring them success.

In a misguided attempt to join the MMO sect, yet another old video game legend is going to try his hand. When will the developers learn that right now the MMO population is split so that that it cannot even support the MMO games that are already out? Why do they think there are so many MMO server shutdowns an consolidations? They all want to be the next WoW, but that will not happen until WoW's day is done. Oh well, I digress. Bushnell is going to be working on a new MMO which he has provided no details about, of course, other than to claim there are other ways to play MMO games than the method used by WoW. Sony Online Entertainment is showing its love for the players this week by hosting a variety of in-game events themed around Valentine’s day.

This one is a pretty big rumor, but it warrants bringing to you. You may or may not have heard that there is a new Star Wars MMO game in the works that will launch simultaneously on PC and home consoles. It will also be released around the same time that the new Star Wars TV show debuts, just to add to the publicity. It was thought that the game may be a Knights Of The Old Republic type MMO, but according to today's news, Bioware will not be developing the game, nor will SOE, the makers of Star Wars Galaxies. We will have to wait until at least the end of this year for concrete info, we think, since this game and the TV show are not scheduled to debut until Fall 2009. Rumor mill for now, and may the force be with us all.

Chinese online games copmany NetEase is rumored to be breaking into the market overseas with a new game - Starcraft Online. The game is rumored to have been developed by the WoW Blizzard team. Blizzard has not confirmed or denied this rumor at this point, although it has advertised for staff for a new MMO. Stay tuned, rumor mill for now.
