SEOUL, KOREA – June 16, 2008 – Seoul-based T-Entertainment today announced that it has licensed Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3 for an upcoming project codenamed L2, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG).

Codemasters seems to be doing well in their MMO endeavors, and Archlord is the latest game to show it. The title has reached the 500k players mark, a notable achievement in this age where everyday a new PC MMO is released. Click read more for the official info.

Thursday, 22nd May (2pm GMT) – Codemasters Online is pleased to announce they have opened the doors to their 500,000th player of its popular subscription-free MMORPG, ArchLord.

SOE is, of course, the perpetual home of Everquest, the game that, more or less, started it all mmo-wise. Yeah, we do not want to hear about Ultima and such via e-mail, ok? Star Wars Galaxies, as well, and a slew of other MMO games. Well, in John Smedley's keynote at ION 08 that's apparently all going to be changing in the near future. He did say "There's more Everquest in our future." But after that, left the topic of EQ. Free Realms and The Agency are where MMO games are going at SOE, it seems. Check out the speech yourself.

NCsoft has announced their first quarter financials, and their net profit is down 43%. How this happened with Guild Wars doing so well is unclear, but it is partially because NC has been developing MMO games like crazy, we think.

Why the developers and publishers continue to put money into MMO game these days, we are just not sure. We keep telling people that the breaking point has been reached for this generation, and that there is just not enough MMO players to fill all the MMO games planned, but of course, no one is listening to us. Why do you think so many MMO games fail? Despite this, Codemasters, one of our favorite dev/pubs, has announced that they will be working on 2 new console MMO games. Maybe the console platform will bring them success.

In a misguided attempt to join the MMO sect, yet another old video game legend is going to try his hand. When will the developers learn that right now the MMO population is split so that that it cannot even support the MMO games that are already out? Why do they think there are so many MMO server shutdowns an consolidations? They all want to be the next WoW, but that will not happen until WoW's day is done. Oh well, I digress. Bushnell is going to be working on a new MMO which he has provided no details about, of course, other than to claim there are other ways to play MMO games than the method used by WoW.
