PvE is where Prophecies had a lot of stuff to do, and where I feel Factions is lacking. Prophecies had 25 missions for you or a group to do, while Factions only has 13 out of the box. More could be added later, however right now there are only 13. What Factions does add a lot to is PvP. It adds the Alliance battles between the 2 factions which guilds can compete. Also of course it adds alliances for guilds, so friendly guild can be more than just “friends”. If you are looking for PvP combat you have two options, to create a PvP character and play in PvP matches only. The other option is to compete in the PvP arenas in the PvE aspect of the game. In these arenas players can be of all different levels. The first arena is of course limited to 1-10, so the highest player is level 10. When you start a PvP only character you are level 20 and so is everyone else, however just because you are level 20, your skill probably isn’t as good as a lot of the other people’s. So even if you are looking for just mainly PvPing, it is best to work through the single player campaign, and compete in the PvP arenas they have setup in the PvE section of the game, before jumping straight into PvP only. One aspect many people like or dislike is how each time you leave town it is an instance. What this means is when you and your group leave town, you are the only ones in the world. This is good and bad. First you won’t see people, which is were some people get disappointed because they feel there should be people running around all the time in the first few sections of the game unless you are doing a raid or something. Others see this as a blessing because there is no one camping the boss you need to kill, and you don’t have to struggle to kill 10 enemies in a certain area. Once in town you can see everyone, everyone that is in your town district that is. Since there is effectively 1 general server everyone plays on, to keep towns from being plagued with lag, each town has town districts. In short a few hundred people are split over the different districts to keep lag to a minimum. If you want to play with friends though all it takes is a simple click in the top left corner to jump to the right town district your friend is in. Also players that aren’t even in the same country don’t have to worry either. There is an international district teaming up with long distance friends or guild mates. As you have probably seen I have mentioned quests and missions. You are probably wondering what the difference is between the two. Quests are small objectives, like mentioned kill 10 enemies in a certain area. Quests often have rewards of new skills, or decent items you can sell if you don’t need. In Factions they also come with Monastery credits which can be redeemed for certain items. |
