When creating your own scenario, you can choose any geographical location to begin. Desert, forest, etc. – they are all there for you to layout as you see fit. You can also create as many acts as you like. If you want Act I to be played out in a desert and Act II and III to take place in a forested area, then you simply select those areas to create the act in. You can even re-select one of the previous locations as the scene for the next act. Nevrax has really though of everything.

Once you have selected the location in which you wish to create your own adventure, you must populate it. You can select from an almost immeasurable amount of NPCs, creatures (both friendly and hostile), flora, and fauna. Once the ambience is set, you then design the actually mission that your guests (or you) will be participating in. You do this by assigning a set of conditions that need to be satisfied in order for the quest or mission to reach completion. You will even be able to write the dialogue that NPCs will use to tell you all about the great task with which you are charged. The actual interface players use to do this is completely menu-driven, and totally intuitive. There are certainly parts of the editor which will require a bit of reading and practice to get juts right, but it is something that anyone who is proficient in the original Ryzom game should be able to accomplish. Once you are ready to give the scenario a test run, you can select test and upload the game to the Nevrax servers. If everything goes as planned, then you are ready to begin the solo or group adventure you have just planned.

Players will be able to use this service for free, and the uploaded scenarios will stay on the Nevrax servers for a short time. Milko told me that Nevrax plans to offer a service where players will be able to upload scenarios that are permanently hosted for a minimal monthly charge (around $5 USD or so). This will encourage players to create Ring maps that may appeal to all players, and it may even give an aspiring MMORPG creator their first taste of just what it takes to make a game such as Ryzom. One thing to note is that the items and other bonuses gained in Ring scenarios will not carry over to the Saga Of Ryzom MMO game, and rightfully so. If they carried over it may lead to some serious game imbalances.

The Ryzom Ring is one of the most powerful pieces of map making software we have ever seen, and on top of that it is for an MMORPG game of all things. With this players can truly create their own adventures, from small 10 minute missions to epic 10-act sagas. Both Milko and us here at MMOReports cannot wait to see some of the imaginative scenarios the Ryzom players come up with this June (assuming the release goes as planned). If you are a Ryzom player, or just want to have a taste of what it takes to make an MMORPG, then we recommend you check out the Ryzom Ring.
